How to enforce my own copyright and neighbouring rights?

Background and key clarifications

Legislation for copyright and neighbouring rights (Federal-Decree Law no. 38) protects numerous kinds of works. Each type of protected works requires quite a specific clarification and assessment which is not following general advice

Nevertheless, some aspects of the clarification can be provided by the author and owner of these rights.

First clarifications you can execute yourself
  • Registration of your own copyright via the UAE’s Ministry of Economy provides evidence for your rights.

  • Gather evidence of your copyright ownership with copies, timestamps of creation, communication, etc.

  • Gather evidence of the claim of infringement, providing available information including a timestamp.

  • Rank the evidence based on its strength and your own assessment.

  • Review the evidence with a qualified and experienced IP lawyer for the next steps.

Do you need a lawyer or IP professional?
  • Only first clarifications and the collection of evidence is possible without a qualified IP lawyer.

  • Based on your explanations and the provided evidence, the lawyer will comment the case and explain further action. Find IP service providers here.
